Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan, will be impressing his audience once again by bringing the life of a father to the 70mm screen. He will be playing the role of the father of wrestler-sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat in the film titled ‘Dangal.’
The inspiration behind this project are the unachievable feats of Geeta and Babita Phogat. They are the famous wrestling sisters who hail from a small place named Balali of Bhiwani village. Their story has caught Bollywood’s attention. Standing erect like a lighthouse in their lives is their father, Mahavir Singh Phogat, who would be the protagonist in Aamir Khan’s next project ‘Dangal’. Aamir himself would play the role of Mahavir Singh, who is the father of the sisters as well as their wrestling coach.
This movie will be one that will hold the audience and make them ponder over the fact that the potential of girls holds no barricades. The movie will depict the blood, toil and tears shed by Mahavir in order to reach the zenith. He has been someone who dared to stalk his dreams until he achieved them, to see his daughters as champion wrestlers despite restrictions and taunts from the society.
Putting an affirmation on the report, Mahavir said he had a conversation with the makers and had confirmed to making a biopic that would highlight his character. He stated, “The story was read out to me and I have approved the script. I am still to meet Aamir Khan, but his team has visited my house a couple of times, recently. They informed me that the shooting is likely to begin in March.” He further added that he was dubious whether he or his daughters would be able to stage themsleves in the movie. ‘Dangal’ is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
Aamir has been working hard on his physique as he will be required to play the role of a wrestler father. He is working along with Mahavir’s coach to make him look like a Haryanavi ‘pehalwan’.
Geeta and Babita are two Dabangg women who not only dared to participate in a male dominated game ‘Dangal’, but had also defeated male wrestlers and won prizes. ‘Dangal’ is a wrestling competition where wrestlers grapple in the mud.
Geeta (52 kg) and Babita (55 kg) had first tasted success when they won gold and silver medals, respectively, at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Geeta has been fortunate enough and had also been a part of the London Olympics in 2012, though could not have managed to win any medal.
