Aamir Khan, better known as Mr. Perfectionist of the Bollywood industry, will be soon playing the role of a wrestler in his upcoming movie ‘Dangal’. Aamir Khan carved his way in Bollywood through ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ where he was a child artiste and which released in 1973. After exploring the acting field, he concentrated back on his studies and the sport of tennis that had always arrested his fascination. He further became a state level tennis champion for Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Aamir fell for a Hindu girl to whom he proposed the day he turned 21.
The girl humbly accepted the proposal but due to opposition from their families they then eloped. The families initially opposed but had to accept later when they returned their homes after getting married. Reena was the name of Aamir’s wife who also appears in Aamir’s epic song “Papa Kehte Hain”. Aamir Khan divorced Reena in December 2001 and in December 2005 married Kiran Rao.
Aamir came into the good books of Indian and International critics after his performance in Earth (1998) where he played the role of an Ice-Candy man. He is one actor who has never associated himself to one kind of genre and has acted in all genres of Indian films that includes comedy, action, drama and romance. His acting methods and techniques have been inspired by his seniors.
Mr. Perfectionist spread his sphere of work in 2007 when he turned a director. He directed the much-acclaimed film ‘Taare Zameen Par’ which brought him immense critical acclaim apart from being a huge box office hit.
2008 had been an year for Aamir he won’t forget easily. This year ‘Ghajini’ released which was his first commercial action film. Indian Cinema had for the first time witnessed such an extravagant success with ‘Ghajini’ that went on to become the highest grossing film of its time. It collected a total of Rs.226 on the worldwide box office and became the first Indian film to cross 100 crores on the domestic Indian box office. In totality, it made a total of Rs.115 crores.
Again Aamir broke his set goalpost with the release of ‘3 Idiots’. The movie has in its name the highest grosser record. The movie was not only appreciated by the audience but also was acclaimed by the critics. The storyline was based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel and it managed to shatter many records.
It is a well-known fact now that Aamir does one film at a time. He is an actor who believes in quality rather than quantity. He is an actor who does one film at a time, while the others work in four or five at the same time. Apart from being associated with popular social upliftment projects like that of Satyamev Jayate, he is also known as someone who avoids any popular film trade magazine awards, for instance Filmfare, Star Screen etc. He has also been awarded with the third highest civilian honour Padama Bhushan by the Government of India.
